Be vigilant with Amazon returns these days

I’ve probably made like 8 returns in the past 6 months or so. It seems 3 out of 8 have had some kind of issue with the return. Two of the 3 problematic returns was due to the fact that I was returning multiple items in the same return. For instance, if you bought 2 widgets and were trying to return both widgets, Amazon eventually would say you returned 1 of them and was waiting for the 2nd item. Then after a few more weeks, they’ll email you saying you never returned 1 of the items and they’ll charge you for it. You’ll then need to chat to get it fixed.

Another return I had was delivered via UPS tracking, but Amazon never marked it as returned. It had been over 30 days; I eventually chatted with them and the guy looked up the tracking to see it was delivered. He then processed a refund for 1 OF THE 2. A few weeks later, I chatted in and the person then said I’d get both refunds. I never saw the 2nd refund. So now I have to chat in a 3rd time to get it fixed. By the way, they never emailed me to let me know that the item was never delivered or about the refunds.

So if you ever need to return something to Amazon, be vigilant in checking your credit card statements to see if the return was ever processed. It’s a shitshow over there.

  1. especially happens to me when we return items to whole foods. you can tell while returning its impossible for them to be on top of it. really crazy how they can get away with it!

  2. I’ve noticed the same thing in the past few months. I’d suggest only doing 1 item per return code/label. At this point, every multiple item return results in as at least one item not getting processed properly. At least Customer Service has been good about the refund when this happens. Still very annoying and shouldn’t be the customer’s responsibility to fix it.

  3. This has happened to me lately, twice. But never once in the many years of Amazon returns, prior to 2022. When I would check with them, they’d say “we have 30 days” but then it would never come. Terrible *I* need to be the one to add returns to my calendar to follow up on. Seems very shady. If return tracking shows delivered to them, they need systems in place to find/refund or send explanation as to why it was denied.

  4. Can confirm, dropped a single item over at Staples two weeks ago, return is not tracking. I do have the receipt, so shouldn’t be an issue getting it fixed, but PITA for sure.
