What auto insurance should you get

Over the years, I’ve heard people asking what auto insurance they should get. Go back like I don’t know 7-10 years when AAA was selling VGC. I was in a AAA office and got to talking to one of the agents there about their insurance one day. She told me that AAA doesn’t offer their own insurance, but they are actually a broker that will look for the best insurance for you. Now I’m sure there are tons of insurance brokers out there, but I trust AAA won’t be shady. Anyway, she was able to find a cheaper auto insurance plan than the one that I had been on. And every year when my renewal comes up, I call her up and ask her to ‘shop around’ to see if I still have the best deal. I want to say it changed 3 times over 5-6 years. I had Erie insurance at one point. Then we switched to Safeco. I t hink I had Metlife at one point. Then we moved to Foremost, which I think was bought out by Farmers.

She responds to emails really fast, so if I need to add or remove a car, she just takes care of it versus me having to call the insurance carrier directly. Over the years, I’ve added home and an umbrella insurance with her, which is why we moved from Safeco to Metlife (all around cheaper for having multiple types.)

I THINK you don’t need a AAA card to get access. I think you just need to show up to your local AAA office and ask around. I used to have a AAA card initially, but after a few years, I cancelled it and I think she knew I cancelled it, but seemed okay to keep using her service.

So if you’re in the market or even if you’re not, I still suggest you go the AAA route just to see if they can find you a cheaper plan.

  1. I had Safeco for a year, no issues, but I didn’t have to file any claims. But I heard many horror stories about them not paying out. So not sure I’ll stick with them or not. But AAA is definitely a good idea, gonna give them a try

  2. im in the market. And have been for a while. but always afraid of changing to a company that I have never heard of…
