Netspend shuts down my Safeway Everyday card

I have had this card since April of last year. I paid the $10 monthly just to give Netspend some money. I’d load about $7500-$10,000 a month and then liquidate it when the balance got close to $5000. I’d also swipe it about 10-20 times a month. I was going great for 8 months. But then I was playing around with some other cards and thus I sort of sock-drawered the card. I still did loads on it, but I wasn’t giving Netspend the 10-20 swipes a month. I probably went 2-3 months of no swipes on the card; just load and unload.

Then last week, I got a voicemail from their compliance department to call them back ASAP. Then I got an email saying that if I didn’t speak to them in 24 hours, my card would be closed. I tried to call them but only got voicemail. Then the next day, I got an email saying my account issue was resolved and that I still had a balance. Well, it turns out it wasn’t resolved. They were just clearing it so they could send me a check.

Anyway, it’s clear that they really want the stupid swipes. It was a good run for a while there.

  1. My co-branded Netspend and regular Netspend cards were closed in Dec of last year. Had both open since 2017 doing light MS on them.

They wouldn’t tell me what I did or why they were closing them
