Last year, I had a pretty successful BoA app o rama. I didn’t need the cards anymore so I was told to drop my CL’s before cancelling the cards. Quick note that before I had cancelled my cards, my only personal card was a Merrill card with a $30K CL and that AS personal for $25K. Then I had 2 Biz AS cards totallying $23K CL. I also had 2 Biz Cash Rewards cards totalling about $20K CL. Anyway, about a month ago, I dropped the ML card down to $1K CL (I don’t use the card but I wanted to keep it instead of closing.) I dropped all 3 AS cards down to $1K. Kept the Biz Cash cards at $20K CL. Then about a week after dropping the CLs, I closed all 3 AS cards. Now I was left with the ML $1K and the 2 Biz Cash cards at $20K.
Over the weekend, I applied for their Premium Rewards Elite card first. I immediately got PENDING. I then tried for the Travel Rewards and that was an immediate rejection. Then I tried for the Unlimited Cash and that was also an immediate rejection. On Monday, I called about the first application and apparently there was a fraud block or something. I cleared it up and then she pushed through the 2 apps that were immediately rejected and then forwarded me to a credit specialist, who then forwarded me to a senior credit specialist. He put me on hold for a few minutes and said I was rejected for the Elite card due to sufficient credit or cards with them. He said it didn’t necessarily mean that I couldn’t get any OTHER cards; I just couldn’t be approved for that one. I then told him ‘Well what’s the status of the TR card and cash card?” He put me on a bit of a hold and said they were approved with something like $3K CL. He then told me that I could call 877-261-3664 after the cards hit my credit report to request CL increases.
I’m not sure what I did wrong here. Maybe I should have waited at least a month after dropping the CL’s before cancelling the cards. I think looking back, I should have dropped the CL’s maybe 6 months in, so that by 12 months and the AF hits, I could just call to cancel them. It’s just odd that $75K of my CL just went into a black hole. Anyway, hopefully they’ll find some of that CL when I call to request CL increases. I’m even PLAT HONORS with them too so that didn’t do anything.
