Review – Fujiwara Omakase in Seattle

My friend had dined at Fujiwara Omakase a couple of times before he told me about it. Apparently the sushi chef was working somewhere else and decided to start his own omakase. The only problem is that it’s expensive to open a restaurant, so for the time being, he is subleasing counter space at the back of another sushi restaurant. I had texted him on like Tuesday or Wednesday and he said he had an early seating available for us for the upcoming Saturday, so the reservation wasn’t too hard to get (word isn’t out yet – I think he’s only been doing this for 2-3 months.)

The sushi counter had about 6 seats and we were the only guests. He had his wife helping to clear the dishes and pour the drinks. I believe it was $150 for about 15(?) courses. No sake pairing, but he had a handful of bottles for you to choose from (we chose an $80 bottle.) The meal started out a bit rough with the cooked dishes being just okay; nothing to write home about. By the time the sushi started, that’s when things started to pick up. Overall, I think if you’re craving omakase, I think this will satisfy your craving. Would I go back? Maybe…in 6 months to see if he’s changed up the cooked items?
