Comcast customer? Get free citywide WiFi

My wife had run out of data this month, and I didn’t want to upgrade her data plan. Then when we were eating with my friend this weekend, she mentioned something about Comcast WiFi. I thought she was talking about the Xfinity phone service, but she said, “No the free Comcast WiFi.” I was confused, but she pulled out her phone and showed me she was connected to the open “xfinitywifi” hotspot.

Sure enough, I hopped onto the open hotspot. The landing screen asked for my Comcast credentials. Once I logged in, sure enough, I was connected to the WiFi. Without doing any research, I had heard that the Comcast routers that they give you to use at home is what you’re connecting to.

Thus, if you’re a Comcast customer, try it out.  Probably only works in dense urban areas with lots of Comcast routers.

  1. Likewise, if you don’t like your power and bandwidth being used by Comcast, disable the setting in your Comcast router.

  2. Yep…this has been around for years now. Kind of like att Wifi which can only be connected at Mcdonald’s/Starbucks and other sponsored establishments. Comcast is better since like you said it connects off a community of routers. I don’t even think you need to have comcast to utilize this “spotty” benefit. Cheers!
