AMEX closing accounts for “perks abuse” people in California

For everyone who got their AMEX “old blue cash” card cancelled in October, over on Flyertalk, there is a new development where AMEX is now closing all of people’s accounts and not just a specific card.  For some reason, they are starting with people in California; not exactly sure why, and the funny thing is that CA makes card issuers give a 30 day advance notice.  So come day 30, people who were expecting just 1 card to be axed got a surprise and all of their cards were axed.  If you have a Hilton or an SPG AMEX, that should be fine since as soon as those points are earned, they go into the respective programs.  If you have Membership Rewards points, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to transfer them out ASAP.  I got my “OBC” axed in October, so I was a little worried.  I transferred all of my 200K MR points to British Airways (due to the 40% bonus through Jan 31 and since I can use them for Alaska Airlines redemptions).  They left Bluebird/Serve/Redbird in tact since those are prepaid products.
