Introduction
During last week’s 1 hour time window where Chase didn’t apply 5/24 on the CSR card, I applied for 3 cards – wife, mom, and myself. My wife’s and mom’s card arrived yesterday. I instead received a very small envelope. It’s like when you were applying for college back in the day – small envelope meant a rejection letter and a big fat envelope meant you got in.
Rejected for too many inquiries and too many cards
Even though in my original recon, the rep said she was going to push it to be approved, I guess secondary approvals said “no way.” I was worried secondary approval was going to reject me due to my Chase ban, but it looks like the typical 5/24 rejection excuses. Now I regret not also applying for the Ritz Carlton on the same day just to see if it’s really 5/24 or the ban. Oh well, next time perhaps.
Lessons Learned
Once again, I’m not sure if it’s truly because of 5/24 or the ban, but at least the rejection letter gives me hope that it’s due to 5/24. If it was due to 5/24 though, this doesn’t bode well for the average consumer who gets approved by recon but second level still rejects. I guess I should have pushed harder for first level to approve on the spot instead of having her send it to second level.

Same here. Applied CSR in branch, no dice on escalation or approval. I signed up for Ritz online later that morning and was auto-approved (somewhere around 19/24). Ritz definitely isn’t under 5/24.

Same here. I reconned and the rep told me that I was rejected due to 5/24, not “unsatisfactory relationship” with Chase.

Yep. BA went straight into 7-10 day mode.
But I do think the shutdown is the main culprit for rejection and Chase just used 5/24 as an excuse. So many people way over 5/24 got approved on the spot within that magic hour.

Yeah my wife was way over 5/24 and got in on magic hour.
I applied this Monday.
When I called the checking status number, the automatic system tried to route me to a representative so I just hung up.

So I got the rejection letter for my BA app, and it lists “previous unsatisfactory relationship with this bank” as the reason. Too bad we are not off the blacklist yet, Vinh.
Let me recap. CSR rejection was the same as mine (too many hits, new credit) but the BA app said ‘unsatisfactory relationship?’
Yep, that’s right. I wonder why there’s a difference between the two letters.
I wonder if they just give you the top 2 reasons why you were rejected and ‘unsat relationship’ was 3rd on the list of your CSR rejection.
Actually my CSR rejection letter only cites ‘too many accounts’ as the sole reason.
