Chase shut down post script and more misc news

Chase Hyatt application status

Remember when I was shut down by Chase, I had decided to apply for both the Ink and the Hyatt card on the same day.  The rejected me for the Ink for too many new accounts.  It had been 3 weeks since I heard about the Hyatt.  Eventually, they sent me  a letter saying they can’t give me one because I already had the card ending in xxxx.  I checked my history and I had never had a Hyatt card ending in xxxx.  For a bit, I was excited because I thought maybe I had applied twice and maybe I can expect another letter with the actual physical card.

I decided to call up recon anyway.  I gave him the reference number and he also said I already had the card.  I asked him when I opened the card; he said 2012.  I told him I had closed that card in 2014 or so.  He put me on hold for a bit and then came back and said I should call account services and give them the reference number.  I then called account services, gave them the last 4 of xxxx, and after a bit of hold, when the rep came back on the phone, the cheery tone turned into the tone you’d give someone if their puppy died.  He told me that card was closed a month ago and asked him when I applied for the new card.  I lied and said 2 months ago.  Didn’t matter.  Seems like my trick didn’t work.  Wasted a HP on my EX for the Ink and a HP on EQ for the Hyatt.  If I had known they’d pull separate CRs for the biz and pers, I wouldn’t have tried for both.  Oh well.

 Chase Ultimate Rewards

Continuing on the Chase shut down, I had about 20K of pts I had earned through their portal.  Well, it looks like they were nice enough to let the points post and for me to transfer out, even after the shutdown.

Discover Miles

I decided to cancel my Miles card this week after getting the double cashback.  No retention offer from the rep since he knew I already had the IT card.  He asked why and I told him I wanted to consolidate cards.  I thought about asking to see if he could move CL, but I wanted to make sure I’d free up room for a  higher CL when I get the card again.

  1. Are you sure that they pulled from different bureaus for the Hyatt and Ink cards? I know this varies by region, but in my case Chase always pulls from two bureaus even if I apply for just one card.

    1. Hmm not sure then Greg. I haven’t applied for 1 card from Chase in a while. I would have looked at my wife’s history, but I never signed her up for free credit monitoring so can’t confirm how it is in my region.

    2. I applied for the ink plus and they only pulled one credit bureau and that was experian of course. Also you can now check application status within three online banking session. I called recon line and basically asked me a ton of questions then approved it by snagging some CL from my ink card.

    1. Oh no! I’m not sure now. I’ll need to update my INK links to my wife’s. Thanks for supporting the site Ling!

      1. Glad I gave you a head-up. It didn’t get approved until I sent in some documentations to verify the address.
Let’s me give a shout out to Anh who gave me prompt and valuable responses for my Asia trip. I feel everyone can earn miles but how to make the best use of them is the hardest part!
