Renewing Global Entry via a Zoom call

My wife’s Global Entry apparently had expired back in 2021. However we didn’t know it until we went on a trip last week and noticed she didn’t have PRECHECK anymore. Sure enough, we logged onto the GE site and it showed the expiration and a conditional approval. They had 2 interview options – one for in person and one for a Zoom call. Since we didn’t want to deal with the hassle of a) finding an in person location time slot and b) just the time to do all that, I looked at the Zoom options. Unfortunately there were no time slots available. I looked on Reddit and FT but it was no help.

I waited until the next morning at around 8AM PT or so. I logged in and I want to say I didn’t see anything either. Then around 8:30AM or so, I saw some 4AM PT time slots (ooph) and a few more. I’d say there were probably 10 open time slots over the next 2 weeks but most were at 4AM. By the time we realized it’s better to deal with a 4AM Zoom call than doing it in person, all the time slots were gone again.

The next day, I think it was some time in the afernoon (sorry I don’t have exact time and there was no email confirmation,) but I was able to find a 10AM time slot for the upcoming Saturday. I quickly nabbed it.

Come Saturday morning, the web site says you can log into the Zoom 15 minutes prior to the time slot. We had to update the stupid Zoom app, so leave yourself some time for that if you haven’t used it in a while. The Zoom call took about 5 minutes. Then about 15 minutes later, we got an email saying she was approved. Quick and easy and painless.

Lesson learned is that you should just keep checking the site for Zoom time slots to open up.
