Best Buy cancels all my desktop orders

My 8 year old dishwasher failed on me the other day. While it was running, wife told me she heard a buzzing noise, then a POP sound and then smoke coming out of it. I watched a couple of Youtube videos on how to open it up, which I did and found out that the circuit board was fried. I had read that the fix runs between $400-$550 (circuit board is about $250 and the rest labor.) Well, for that price, I figured I’d get a new one from Best Buy instead (I also learned new dishwashers now have a 3rd rack at the top for your utensils and chopsticks.) Turns out my Total Tech membership, which I bought last fall to score PS5’s actually gives free appliance installs (worth about $200.) Anyway, I spent a few days looking at dishwashers and finally settled on an LG one.

I waited for their July 4 sale and noticed there was a delivery date for the first week of July, so I decided to place an order on my desktop. Order was instantly cancelled due to ‘quantity limits,’ which makes no sense since I had never bought a dishwasher before. I tried again and same thing – a cancel after 5 minutes. I found this odd since I had been ordering PS5’s and just last week, a video card and all those orders stuck. That’s when I realized that every successful order on that account was via the app. Sure enough, I ordered a 3rd time, this time using the app, and what do you know – the order stuck.

It’s very strange because I can order on my desktop using other accounts just fine, but for some reason, this one account (the one I’ve been using almost all the time due to just ordering PS5’s on the app) seems to be blocked from ordering from desktop. This is similar to my Target ban, where I can only order from the app and can’t use GC on the order. So if you can’t get your Best Buy orders to stick, try to order from the app instead.

  1. I would try deleting your cookies for Best Buy or try a different browser (where you haven’t logged in to Best Buy before). I suspect both would work to allow desktop orders to go through.

  2. Fantastic insight.

Coulda used this info to buy Microsoft-brand Xbox Wireless headphones when BB had them on sale for a minute. BB hasn’t even had them at regular price in stock for weeks, too. Last time I try to buy something while at work on desktop. App to the rescue!

    Thx!

  3. Thanks so much Vinh, bestbuy keeps cancelling my orders on desktop and I tried to buy today via mobile app and it worked. I bought 3060 Ti GPU today at MSRP. So happy. You are awesome!

  4. 2 questions.

Is it true that you used the same account that had Total tech when you ordered via app?

Can we use total tech across other accounts?
e.g. I have it on a personal account but not on my student account, so could I order something with the student account and call someone to get the benefits manually connected to that account?

    1. 1. Yes I only was trying with my TT account since it had free install. TT account on desktop = cancelled order. TT account on app = stuck order.

Not sure about 2nd q, but I’m guessing no, else it’s a loophole that would give anyone TT

      1. I expect the best they could do is to switch your email and TT account before you placed the order. They should at least be able to do that as when I purchased it they had the wrong account and I had them correct it then, but even if allowed that would be a PITA calling in (and with only the same person to qualify).
