US MINT now blocking addresses

Think I’ve hit a new low in life – I’ve seem to now be banned from the US MINT. Well, not me, but my address. And it wasn’t just me; I’d say a couple of dozen people who tried to buy yesterday’s coin got this error message on final submit:

This order was rejected due to an issue with your data. Please check your Credit Card Verification Number or contact us 800.USA.MINT (872.6468) or you may email us at usmint-support@usmcatalog.com for further assistance (DM).

I tried to change credit cards and got the same error as well. Tried on a different IP, etc and no go. Even tried guest checkout and no go. We’re not quite sure what has caused this block (well I know why I’m blocked,) but I’m not sure why other folks got blocked. I’m also not sure if this is their new anti-bot measure or what. Just seems odd. I was able to buy coins to my mailbox address just fine though so it’s definitely something the US MINT did to my home address.

  1. Just add an apartment number to your address.

That’s how I get around the HHL. The Mint thinks it’s a different address.

The mailman doesn’t care if your home has an apartment listed or Unit listed on the package as long as the first address line is correct!

  2. I am blocked too. I placed two orders In the past year, one for bronze medals and one for a silver coin. After the first order shipped, I received an invoice that threatened me with collections. I called and provided the Mint with the exact same payment information I gave them at time of purchase. Why they didn’t just charge that card in the first place–or why they shipped the order without first processing the payment–is beyond me,

Second order was cancelled without notice.

Since then I have been blocked and unable to purchase anything from the mint regardless of order method (online, telephone) and payment method (credit cards, paypal).

  3. To the original poster whi says the mint blocked his address: You’re spreading misinformation.
That error is from where there was a communication error between the mint form and the bank. Ive seen that error bedore and always managed to make the order a few minutes later . You really should delete your post because it’s false.

      1. You’re saying the mint is blocking an address and that is false – unless you’ve met the household limit for that address. You just don’t understand how it works. Many of us noticed that the website gives errors and sometimes it doesn’t. But you’re attributing that to “the mint blocking addresses” and that is not the case. As others have already commented, they’ve seen that error before and then successfully made an order afterwards.
Most browsers autofill the credit card info. Sometimes, you may fill the info out and then the browser adds characters to the same field and if you don’t notice that and submit the order then the bank rejects the charge because the form has the wrong info. I’m sure people have noticed that happening. The error is related to the web form miscommunicating with the bank, OR the bank rejecting the charge for a variety of reasons. I’ve seen the error and subsequently made orders with the same address and the same card. I’ve also changed the card to a different one and had the order go through. What happens is that the mint tries to debit the account and gets a handshake saying that the bank acknowledges the pre-authorization. If the mint doesn’t give a reply back to definitely place the pre-authorization charge then the transaction doesn’t go through. Many people would be surprised if they looked at their card account and seen the multiple times the card is trying to be charged. After a certain amount of failed attempts the bank will sometimes say “no more” and reject the charge attempt. Sometimes using a fresh card after the error results in the transaction going through.
But the error you describe has nothing to do with the mint blocking addresses (unless you’ve reached the mint’s household limit). You saw a coincidence where you tried to buy a coin and failed, you changed your address and then was able to get the coin. That’s a coincidence and the bank is not blocking addresses of people that are following their rules. As mentioned, other people have commented that they’ve seen the error and then later was successful using same card/same address. So yeah, you’re spreading misinformation and if you don’t delete it, it’ll probably get passed around some – and that benefits no one and needlessly worries people. The mint website is buggy and that was your problem.

        1. Explain this to me then – I tried 4 different credit cards. All got that error. As soon as I changed the addresss and using the SAME CC, the order GOES THROUGH IMMEDIATELY. And it’s not a coincidence because others tried the same thing and it went through too.

  4. My order went thru, but they IMMEDIATELY cancelled the order after I GOT the confirmation email. Email said, “it was cancelled because the item(s) are no longer in our inventory and are not available for backorder”. Then, I called and rep said it was cc charging issue, but I do see pending charge on cc (cc company claimed the transaction was approved). In fact, it is the same cc as other previous orders. Absurd experience. Hopefully they won’t cancel my Morgan’s, that would be nasty.

      1. Thanks! Fortunately I was able to order one again next day with availability around 500qty. So I guess they did canceled a lot of orders.

  5. I had this message too a few months ago. It didn’t make any sense, but I got it repeatedly no matter what I tried. But the next day and after that, it was all fine. Don’t overthink it. We know the mint’s web site is pretty bad.

  6. I also got the same error multiple times yesterday but was able to buy a coin today online with the same info, so it is their anti bot software or something which is causing this issue.
Customer service is clueless and btw there were 18 pending charges on all my credit cards for the orders which gave this error.

    1. US mint is the worst run business in the world.
I was able to complete an order for the new Peace dollar but later the status showed as BACKORDER.
Yesterday I got an email saying they can’t fill the order.

      1. Did you keep enough money available in your account for the order? I know they still haven’t taken mine out. I have to keep around $500 available for my purchases. They don’t charge you until they fill the order, anyone that doesn’t have enough $ available will lose their purchase.

  7. I also got the same error and finally placed the order through customer service by calling. The CS not able to find what’s the issue with my online account.

  8. I am confused, at first you said you were unable to order, and then your last comment stated, “”I was able to buy coins to my mailbox address just fine though so it’s definitely something the US MINT did to my home address.” Can you elaborate on that last sentence, please.
