Best Buy sends me wrong denomination gift card

I’m typing this while on the phone for the 4th time about this issue and it’s gotten nowhere so far. This is what happened – I had bought 4 x $500 Best Buy gift cards back in mid December. They mailed me 3 x $500 gift cards and a $25 gift card. I called support and they had me mail back the $25 gift card. I did that and got a refund for $25. I then called back again asking where my $475 refund was. Each time, the rep would say, “Okay I’ll send it to the back office and you should see it in 2-3 days.” Of course I never saw it.

Eventually last month, I called another time and they said it was coming. Today, I finally called back and escalated to a supervisor. After 45 minutes on hold with a supervisor, the call got disconnected just when she was about to tell me what happened. I called up again and after another 45 minutes with what seems like more of a competent supervisor, who then told me that I should have gone into a store to have resolved this months ago, appeared to have put in ANOTHER request for my $475 refund. Let’s see if it actually happens in 2-3 days.

I know a lot of you guys buy Best Buy gift cards and I must have had over 100 orders back in Q4, this was the ONLY time this happened. The lesson learned here is that if they screw up like this, go into a store to see if they can resolve it. I’m 99% sure when I first called in, Best Buy could see the gift card numbers that they mailed out with the order and could verify that one of them had an initial balance of $25.

  1. Similar experience with Sam’s Club, except they would not activate one of the gift cards at all. I just filed a chargeback after talking with these bozos three times.
