Review – Animal Crossing New Horizons for Switch

You know that saying drug dealers use – “Don’t use your own product!” Well, I had started my Mercari account a few months ago and they had a promo where if you listed 10 items, they gave you a $20 off $100 coupon. I didn’t know what to buy with it, and lo and behold, someone listed a used copy of Animal Crossing New Horizons and Zelda for $105, so I used the coupon to buy it.

I’m not going to go super in depth, but let me just say the game is FUN…rather it WAS FUN. You see, the first few hours of the game is super fun and addicting. You’ll play for a few hours a day catching fish and bugs and shit. After a week of this, you’ll be able to buy turnips and sell them later at a higher price, so you’ll do that to earn money, which you can then use to upgrade your house or buy random stuff. This goes for a few weeks and is still fun. My wife and I would take turns playing the game.

Fast forward 4-6 weeks and you’ll eventually be able to change the layout of your island by changing the waterways and cliffs, etc. I had this idea on how I wanted to change my island, but it’s such a massive undertaking that I started it for a few hours and now I’ve given up. It would be like trying to do a massive remodel on your basement – there are just so many things to do that you are either a go-getter and DO IT or you’re the type that goes, “Ohmygod, that’s too much of an undertaking” and just give up on the project. I’ve given up on the project and the game because of that.

With that said though, I think the game is fun and relaxing, and I can see why so many people were buying it for the pandemic.
