Earlier this spring, HEB released these reusable shopping bags with Selena on them. This was the 2nd time they were doing it; the first one resold very well, so everyone assumed this one would be hot too. The bags only cost $8, so I figured it was worth the risk/reward. I went and backed up the truck and bought over 100 of them.
Immediately Ebay was flooded with them and they turned into turds. I figured I’d wait until XMAS to offload, but Ebay inventory was still high. I only sold 2 during XMAS. I may just offload the rest for a bigger loss just to clear up inventory. Lessons learned – usually the 2nd releases don’t do as well because a) the resellers are all on to the 2nd release and b) usually the supplier (HEB in this case) ramps up production.
If anyone sells you something and they only tell you about the wins and not the losses (ex all stock pickers,) stay away from them. To be honest, I would have told my group to buy these too because I was pretty confident in them and we all would have lost some money. It’s impossible to bat 1000% in the reselling game; you just gotta pick more winners and losers and know when to double down (ala Oculus.)
