Pity party for one

It dawned on me yesterday that I had forgotten to send in a $55 rebate for a Kaspersky software that I had bought last month on 5/8.  Of course the rebate was supposed to be postmarked by 6/8, and now I can’t even find the rebate online anymore.  This also means it’s past the 30 day return policy too.  Why do I bring this up?  Because for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been in a lull…  maybe it’s work stress or maybe I just don’t have the motivation to keep on MS’ing.  Here’s what I’ve forgotten to do this month:

  • The Newegg Kaspersky debacle (I think I can FBA this for about $450, so I may be only out $10 on this deal)
  • I let a $20 Kohls cash expire.  I blame this partly on that they didn’t have a round of 30% off, but really, it was my laziness.  I had even went to a Kohl’s store last weekend; I just totally forgot about it.  I also partly blame this by the fact that it was in my wife’s email account.  This was the 1st time I’ve let this happen to.
  • I forgot to fully pay my FIA AMEX
  • I let my Arrival, Double Cash, and SPG all close with balances in the 5 figures
  • I still haven’t shipped my Staples Roomba to FBA yet, and so I’m sure it’s depreciated by $20-$50 since then.
  • Speaking of FBA, I have about a dozen items I need to ship to them
  • I haven’t bought anything since Bloomingdale’s banned me, so the 20K Challenge has grind to a halt
  • Speaking of Bloomingshit, I need to return a Dyson back to them since the last one they sent without an outer box, so it got box-damaged.  Maybe this was their way of giving me the middle finger.  Haha.
  • Sam’s Club has emailed me twice about activating 2 $50 gift cards.  Anyone know if this is necessary?
  • I’ve made no step towards my reselling business (actually I did find an item; I just haven’t made contact with the supplier yet)
  • There’s a good chance I don’t fully load my Serve/RB this month
  • Speaking of loads, I need to follow up on the $3,000 of frauded US Bank gift cards
  • I have 10 Serve sub accounts that I need to activate and create Twitter accounts
  • I have 10 more AU cards that I need to activate (I’m sure AMEX will have a Staples offer that will expire in an hour, which I’ll then get angry and that’s when I’ll activate all 20 cards)
  • I need to call Chase to ask for an annual fee credit on my Ink.  I have 0 plans on cancelling since it’s hard to get Chase approvals these days, but it doesn’t hurt to ask
  • I still have money on 2 AMEX for Target cards that I need to go out to Costco to withdraw the money out.
  • I need to write the May recap!!!!!
  • I’ve been dragging my feet about planning the last pieces of my South Africa trip next week (or maybe I’m just excited for that instead of all these problems)

Did I just somehow list my to-do list and pretend it was a solid day’s post?  YUP, sure did.  For all you ‘casual’ MS’ers, this is what happens when this becomes a serious hobby.

  1. this post completely describes my current state of ennui. and strangely i am also headed to ZA (in two weeks!). i’ve been embroiled in a lot of trip planning so i’m blaming that as a distraction!

    1. Cool. We can both blame it on the same reason. Reminds me of ‘senioritis’ back in high school…you know, when you’re about to graduate and you just don’t really care to do anything…

  2. I always joke with my fellow MSing friends that it’s almost like a part time job. It takes a lot of time to keep up and stay organized especially when you also have a real full time job that has a lot of its own responsibilities and such. But I’m really sorry for what’s been going on in your game recently…keep your head up! You will solve each of the problems!!

  3. I believe what you’ve outlined is the classic case of no matter how far ahead we think we are or think we’re getting – at the end of the day the house always wins.

the boring/mundane and non-fun aspects of this game notwithstanding (lke loading prepaids, depositing etc,) THiS is what the folks who designed the game count on to recoup their profits. I mean breakage is what they ink their bottom-lines with.

when we let “cash” expire or sit somewhere (AFT) without closing the loop, let points expire, dont file rebates/they get denied, end up paying interest charges or late fees. or even forgetting to follow up on bad GCs (I’m assuming thats what you mean by frauded US Bank) or eating shipping fees on buyers remorse etc.

  4. Can you outsource any of this stuff at all? Obviously in-person stuff might not be feasible, but paying someone on Fiver $5 to set up all of the Twitter accounts with a junk email account that you create? Could be worth it… Stay up, man.

    1. Thanks John. I have considered outsourcing some of my stuff (mostly to family back in Vietnam) to help me with mundane stuff. You and I clearly think alike.

      1. Kohls no longer accepts expired Kohls cash in store as of 6/1/15, I know this because I had like $500 in expired KC from the past year and I had been using it last month and every time I used an expired KC they would tell me “this is the only time we will do this for you we will no longer honor them after 6/1/15”. Long story short I still have maybe $150 expired KC because im lazy and I did forget about it too, and it is under my wifes account as well =/

  5. My list looks somewhat similar, though not as long.. Like the 20k challenge, you should probably take this list up as well and target to complete all activities by end of the month (and do another post after, to motivate folks like me to get back)

    1. Haha. I think just writing them all down have helped tremendously. Now to start unchecking items off of there…

      1. need to prioritize, I try to do the most profitable things first, then when I have time I do the miscellaneous crap. I have been fortunate to not have a lot of work at work but that will end soon =/.

  6. Re: Sams Club Gift Cards. Yes, you do need to click on the link in the email they sent (the one where they said your Sams Club Gift Card has shipped) to activate the gift card, otherwise the gift card doesn’t work for purchasing.
