Why I signed up for the Victoria’s Secret store card

So Doctor of Credit wrote a post recently about applying for credit cards using a ‘shopping cart trick.’  Basically it allows you to apply for credit cards without a hard pull.  This is great for people with new/bad/little credit to help them build credit, but why I am interested in this is not because I shop at Victoria’s Secret, but because you can use Evolve to pay department store charge cards.

Anyway, I tried to get the Dillard’s AMEX card, which I still am eyeing since it’s no annual fee and eligible for a lot of AMEX offers.  I could’t get the Dillard’s popup, so I gave up on it for now.  However, from my limited research, Victoria’s Secret seemed to be the easiest to get.  So I went out to VS.com and put some pajamas in my cart.  I then proceeded as a guest checkout.  After I entered in my billing information and before I entered in any credit card information, I got the popup.  I was offered a $1K line of credit.  I clicked through, and it was possibly the easiest and fastest credit card signup of all time.  It only asked for the last 4 digits of my ssn and something else that I forgot because it went by so fast.  After I hit submit, it notified me that I was approved for the $1K credit line.  It sent me back to my cart where it wanted me to complete my pajamas checkout with the new card.  I just closed out of the window because I only wanted the card; not the actual pajamas.  Don’t tell my wife.  An additional bonus was that there was something like a $15 signup bonus.  Sure, I’ll take free money and thousands of miles per year, all for a soft credit pull.
