Review – Le Meridien Barcelona, Spain

Introduction

We stayed here in early July 2018.  I had booked our 5 nights on points – 20,000 points per night, 80K total due to 5th night free on points.  We decided to go with this one instead of the W because this is more centrally located.  We walked to every meal and every tourist attraction. The only time we took a cab was when we had to go to the train station to go to Girona.  I don’t think you could really ask for a better location.

Getting to hotel

We just took the A1 bus from the airport to the main plaza.  It runs very frequently and was relatively cheap.  Once it drops you off at the plaza, you walk about 10-15 minutes to the hotel.

Checkin

I had used my suite night awards and got upgraded to one of their suites.  I don’t remember too much about the check-in but that it was pretty fast.  If you’re a Platinum member (or maybe even Gold too,) you can get B1G1 happy hour drinks at the bar downstairs.

Wifi

It was fine; no big issues.

Room

Because we were on a lower floor, my wife did wake up a few times at night due to the rowdy people below us.  Thus, I’d request a high floor if possible.

Breakfast

As a Platinum member, I chose the free breakfast buffet.  They had a great omelette station that I got every day as well as some Iberico ham.  I think they did rotate out SOME items for the 5 breakfasts that we ate there.  The breakfast wasn’t as big as the Westin Madrid space wise, but I felt it had the same amount of food that you’d eat.

Conclusion

I thought the hotel was great.  The only downside was that there wasn’t a pool (more than the mini sauna looking thing they have,) but I don’t think too many hotels have a pool in Barcelona.  Also would have been great if they had a rooftop bar.  I’m just nitpicking here.  I do highly recommend this hotel if you’re going to Barcelona.

By the way, there is a bubble tea shop in the alley on the right when facing  the hotel.  So walk out of hotel, turn left and you’ll hit the main street, go left a block, turn left again.  It’ll be on your right.  IT’S LEGIT.  I went 3 out of the 5 days.  Would have gone more if I could.

  1. For those that don’t want to spend that many points, the Four Points Diagonal is one of the best value hotels in the world in my opinion, where cash rate can even be less than 100 euros a night at times.
