Well, it was a good run guys. I noticed that when I logged in last week that my credit limit was 0. I then called them up and asked if there was still a fraud block on the card. They said, “Uhhh this card has been closed.” I got the letter in the mail on Monday basically saying, “This account has been closed. Write to or call this number and then we’ll tell you why.” The number goes to the fraud department. So I’ll call them up tomorrow to get the reason why. I’m like 95% sure it was due to the stupid fraud alert that got eyes on the account. I’m also 99% sure that once my account got eyes, they didn’t like all the cycling on the card. Oh well. I knew there would always be this risk.
Lesson learned here – even if people tell you that a bank is cool with cycling, everything has limits. Also, what if they mean 2-3X cycling and not 6X cycling, you know? If I was to do it again, I wouldn’t have both P1 and P2 sign up at the same time. I should have done just myself first and tested out the waters. Then P2 can learn from what happened to me and go from there. You guys have the advantage of now knowing to a) don’t get any fraud alerts on the card and b) don’t cycle the shit out of the card. How much to cycle? Well it’s clearly between 0 and 6X.

I found your posts late, but read through them an appreciate the detail you put into everything. Although this was a project for you a while ago, I was wondering if you could provide one final update. Mainly I am wondering about:
1) Did they attempt to claw back any of your life status points or miles earned through the spend? At the point now, I would assume they would have done this if it was going to happen.
2) You ended up with approximately 315k in spend which would equate to 1050 LSPs? This would push me over the limit as I have been using this card for several years before thinking about doing MS.
Also, without looking it up, I believe the JMB Elite+ is only available to holders of the JAL card that requires a Japanese address. For any one with the JAL USA Card, Three star would be the first opportunity you have to join.
No they never clawed back my status points
Im sorry to hear about the shut down. How far are you on the numbers? Whats the plan now? continue next year or mileage run them? Thanks for doing the hard work and def enjoyed reading all the MS
Wow, that sucks big time. Thanks again for keeping us so well informed on everything. After lurking on your blog for months, I finally gave in and just got my card in the mail this week. I have work expenses and don’t MS, so hopefully I’ll be able to pull this off, even if it takes longer.
Sorry to hear about your shutdown. Did they close both P1 and P2 accounts?
The LSPs you’ve already earned won’t expire, so you could perhaps wait a year, then re-apply for the card again to try continuing the challenge.
Also, are you going to enroll in JMB Elite+ to extend the expiry date of your miles?
