The US Mint lifts the household limit on the Army Privy coin

Well yesterday, 7/31 was an interesting day in the USMint world. In the morning, they loaded about 17K stock of the army privy coin. That was very odd since inventory levels were I want to say around 1-3K over the past few weeks and I didn’t hear of any mass cancel waves recently. Then at around 3:30PM PT, they lifted the household limit. We we expecting this to be lifted days ago since they had started to ship the coins back on 7/29 and also at around 9:00AM PT, which is when they USUALLY lift limits. It caught folks by surprise. I believe it took about 15 minutes for all 17K to be sold. I have no idea who ate up all the supply; even my coin dealers were shocked it happened the way it did.

What’s the lesson learned here? When the MINT, or rather any company, starts playing games with inventory levels, expect other things to happen shortly (maybe even on the same day.)

  1. Has anyone had their Sacagawea coins cancelled?

I ordered two, with two separate addresses and two separate credit cards on two separate accounts. Name was the same though….

Both got cancelled at exactly 3:08pm Pacific…

    1. Yea I got my Sacagawea and Superman coins cancelled on my main account this morning at around 8:57AM PT. I think I’ll write a post tomorrow about it.

  2. How were you able to estimate remaining inventory for the coin? Did it say that anywhere on the US Mint listing, besides the original montage amount?

  3. My order still shows on backorder.

Are folks getting shipping notices yet? Maybe they are rolling out shipping in waves.

I sent an inquiry on the 30th, but got just a canned response saying no other ETA than the 29th.

    1. Mine was showing backordered until this morning when it changed to processing and my card was charged.
