Venmo seems to have lowered sending limits

Venmo used to have an unpublished (?) sending limit of $10K on a rolling 7 day basis. However, now after sending around $4.5K and trying to send another $1.7K, I get an error that says “We’ve paused your payments. We noticed more spending than usual, so we paused things to help keep your account secure.” This was never a problem in the past; I used to be able to send the $10K, not use Venmo for a few months and then send another $10K just fine.

Seems Reddit has seen this issue a month ago, so maybe they started this in 2025. My guess is maybe it’s now a rolling $5K per 7 days, but haven’t fully tested the limits. Just sucks for them to lower the limits w/o telling anyone.

  1. Not meaning to press you but are you OK? You traditionally post once or twice a week and it’s been well over a month. Any chance you could post a very short Mark Twain “Tales Of My Death Are Greatly Exaggerated” type of post to let people know you’re around?

  2. (Presuming you are sending to P2 for MS) I was of the understanding they would 1099 the recipient as income over a threahhold which the government keeps changing AFTER the year ends. I lost track of what it is now. I am always concerned with receiving any Venmo or Paypal unless it is necessary, for this reason. What’s the latest info?
