Well that was quick. After 2 months of their new “return for any reason” change, it seems Mercari is going back to their old return policy of only being able to return if the item was not as described. I was expecting a few scam returns over the last 2 months, but I didn’t get any returns. Maybe scammers only go after low feedback sellers since they may not be as experienced in fighting back. The funny thing is I don’t even know how to complain to Mercari so for that many people to have complained is rather impressive. But realistically, a scammer is gonna scam, regardless of what the actual policy is.
I once shipped out the wrong item to the guy and the guy does a return request. He then returns a used jigsaw puzzle. And I had no way to even fight back to say he returned the wrong item online. I had to find a backdoor phone number and even then, the rep only sided with me because the buyer apparently had 2 returns and mixed up his return packages. So if he hadn’t written he sent the wrong item in the return in messaging, I wouldn’t have had any recourse.
