Let’s say you had a way to CLEAR the airport numerous times, but you only have 1 phone and 1 phone number to take advantage of any Uber/Uber Eats/Postmates promos that they may run. When creating an Uber account, you’ll need a phone number to verify yourself. May I suggest Google Voice or any paid service that lets you verify phone numbers. Once you’ve created the account, you’ll want to set up 2 factor authentication on this account. The reason for that is say in 3 months or so, you may need to log into that account again. And if you don’t have access to that phone number you initially created the Uber account, you may be SOL. However, if you have 2FA set up, then when you try to log into that account, you’ll just need to pull up the 2FA and you’re in. You can then change the phone number to a current phone number.
The second benefit of waiting 3 months to use that Uber Eats account is that after a while, Uber Eats will start sending you 1st time use coupons like $25 off $25 your first order. And since those vouchers are 1 per account, you’ll need to scale up your Uber accounts. Annoying but hey it’s a free $75 of rides/food.
Upon further thought, seems simpler for me to leave my number as it is in the Uber app, and make the 2fa number in Uber settings my GV number, which already forwards to my phone.
Tell me if I “get it”.
I have already set up my Uber account with my daily phone.
I should edit my Uber account’s phone number to a GV number (or some other number) that I set up to forward to my phone. Then if I lose the phone, I could access my account with the 2FA code from my computer or other device via GV?
This way I still get all Uber texts/calls/notifications on my phone via forwarding.
No if you already have an Uber account on your primary phone, you don’t need to do 2FA on it or anything cuz you wouldn’t need to log in/log out of it. And if you did, you have access to that phone number to log you in.
This post was for your nth Uber account that you don’t have a phone number for.
