A week ago Uber Eats had some 40% off codes specific to universities that people were able to add to their accounts. Uber has always had somewhat “generic” codes that if you were able to add to your account and were in the geolocation in the terms, then the code would work. However it seems they are trying to cut down on customers who add these promo codes by now soft banning them. See Slickdeals thread here. https://slickdeals.net/f/17016901-select-locations-discount-on-uber-eats-pickup-or-delivery-40-off
I’m not sure why they are doing this. First off, they give out 40% odd codes targeted to your account regularly so it’s not like this code was like 100% off. Second, they could have just invalidated the codes vs going so far as to soft ban customers from using any coupon codes. The odd thing is that I can still see my UW40 code in the account but I can’t apply it to an order even though I used a different targeted coupon code yesterday so I’m not soft banned from using coupon codes but I just can’t use the specific UW40 code.
You’d think the lesson learned is to not use any more generic coupon codes but you can easily fire up a new Uber account if they go so far as to ban your account altogether. The real lesson learned here though is to not load up your account with a lot of gift cards because I’m sure if they ban you, then RIP your stored GC balance.
This isn’t really my understanding of what a soft ban is.
