Getting approved for the Spark Travel Elite

I had been banned by Capital One back in 2018. But then last November, I got back in with the Spark card. Sure it was the nerfed version of a weak signon bonus and just 1.5% cb (hence I rarely use it,) but then in January 2022, a rep from Capital One called me just to say hi. He then emailed me his contact info (glad he did,) and we never spoke again since. I believe I tried to get the VentureX card after that but was denied. I didn’t bother emailing the rep since I figured he was on the business side of things.

Fast forward to last week when the Spark Travel Elite card came out, I emailed the rep asking if he was still my rep and if I could apply for the card. He sent over the application link and applied and was approved. On approval, it didn’t give me a credit limit and I was worried it was going to be a nerfed version of this card, but it seems the card doesn’t have a credit limit so I’m guessing there’s only one version of this card. I then emailed him back letting him know I got approved and he wrote back, “

Great, I see it approved.

Let me know when you get the card in hand and I will help you get it ramped up to the spending power you need.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if you know any other business owners that could benefit from this great offer.

I guess I’ll need to email him to ramp up the card… not quite sure how to play this one. Maybe slow and steady since I don’t want to get re-banned by Capital One. Lesson learned here is that if you’re banned from Capital One, maybe try applying anyway since it seems the business side is more lenient than the personal side. Also, I had used my banned ssn and not ein to get the card.

Update – I talked to my rep and it’d be easiest for you to leave a comment with your name and email and he’ll see it here and contact you.

Update 8/15/22 10:00AM PT – Actually probably better if I send him your contact info; don’t want him knowing I’ve been banned from them and so many other banks. I’ll email him once a week with a batch of names and emails. I sent him a batch of all names thus far. If he reaches out, great. If he doesn’t, then that’s on him. No need to make another comment or ask me. If he does reach out to one of you, let us know in the comments how the process went. Thanks.

Update 8/16/22 9:15AM PT – The rep wanted me to let you guys know his work computer died on him, so he’s expecting a new one on Thurs/Fri and will reach out to you guys then, so that’s why none of you have heard anything yet.

Update 11/30/22 – Unfortunately my rep can no longer take referrals.

  1. He reached out to me yesterday to verify that I was good with the basic terms and conditions. I said yes and today he emailed me the application link. Approved. Thanks, Vinh!

  2. Please have your contact email me as well, I have a significant amount of business spend and would love to sign up.

  3. I’ve also been trying for weeks unsuccessfully to reach anyone at the bank with any knowledge of this product. Vinh, if you could also pass along my contact info I’d appreciate it. Hopefully it can and you a nice referral bonus too

  4. I would like a Rep if possible for my business as we have lots of monthly transactions and I believe the guidance can help us

    Thanks

  5. I have had a Capital One Bank savings account with a comfortable six-figure balance for several years now.

But I have been completely unsuccessful in my efforts to establish contact with a Capital One banker.

When I have called the call center, they told me to visit the Denver capital one branch. When I called the branch, they told me to contact the call center. I even sent a certified letter to the President of the bank.

The bank seems to maintain a “Chinese wall” between its banking and credit card divisions.

At one point, I even had a call center employee tell me our significant, long-standing bank account relationship with the bank is irrelevant to the bank’s assessment our creditworthiness!!!

    1. Haha I have heard of that happening to someone else, but since my other Spark card is still active, then I think I’m fine.

    1. I don’t want to put it out on the blog. Email me your name and email and I’ll fwd it to him and he can decide if he wants to reach out.

      1. Would it be possible to ask for the same? I have a brick-and-mortar business that does a million a year in sales and I’d love to get the card but don’t have any locations remotely nearby.
