Getting approved for the Spark Travel Elite

I had been banned by Capital One back in 2018. But then last November, I got back in with the Spark card. Sure it was the nerfed version of a weak signon bonus and just 1.5% cb (hence I rarely use it,) but then in January 2022, a rep from Capital One called me just to say hi. He then emailed me his contact info (glad he did,) and we never spoke again since. I believe I tried to get the VentureX card after that but was denied. I didn’t bother emailing the rep since I figured he was on the business side of things.

Fast forward to last week when the Spark Travel Elite card came out, I emailed the rep asking if he was still my rep and if I could apply for the card. He sent over the application link and applied and was approved. On approval, it didn’t give me a credit limit and I was worried it was going to be a nerfed version of this card, but it seems the card doesn’t have a credit limit so I’m guessing there’s only one version of this card. I then emailed him back letting him know I got approved and he wrote back, “

Great, I see it approved.

Let me know when you get the card in hand and I will help you get it ramped up to the spending power you need.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if you know any other business owners that could benefit from this great offer.

I guess I’ll need to email him to ramp up the card… not quite sure how to play this one. Maybe slow and steady since I don’t want to get re-banned by Capital One. Lesson learned here is that if you’re banned from Capital One, maybe try applying anyway since it seems the business side is more lenient than the personal side. Also, I had used my banned ssn and not ein to get the card.

Update – I talked to my rep and it’d be easiest for you to leave a comment with your name and email and he’ll see it here and contact you.

Update 8/15/22 10:00AM PT – Actually probably better if I send him your contact info; don’t want him knowing I’ve been banned from them and so many other banks. I’ll email him once a week with a batch of names and emails. I sent him a batch of all names thus far. If he reaches out, great. If he doesn’t, then that’s on him. No need to make another comment or ask me. If he does reach out to one of you, let us know in the comments how the process went. Thanks.

Update 8/16/22 9:15AM PT – The rep wanted me to let you guys know his work computer died on him, so he’s expecting a new one on Thurs/Fri and will reach out to you guys then, so that’s why none of you have heard anything yet.

Update 11/30/22 – Unfortunately my rep can no longer take referrals.

  1. Is your relationship manager still working with you? Please pass along my name/email! Thanks. Appreciate it greatly.

    1. Thanks Vinh. The rep reached out to me with application link. I applied but was denied due to the following:

“Too many accounts of this type”

Not sure what this means. I got Sparks Cash Plus card earlier this year. Other than that only have another Capital One personal card. At 6/24 now. Worth trying reconsideration?

      1. Someone else had this happen too. It seems YMMV. I had the inferior Spark and it worked for me. Maybe it’s a 1 Spark per X months/years type of deal. I don’t know.

  2. Received a call today from a girl claiming to be a relationship manager called me on what appeared to be a personal number from a city close to me asked that i was interested in the spark travel elite asked a few questions about my busniess and spend i asked if she’d send me a application she took my email, still haven’t received it yet figured id call tomorrow if i havent by then yet curious as to how they got my number tho as i only left my name and email, but ill update when i know more

    1. I think it’s because they are matching up the phone and emails in their systems and calling folks if you already have info on file with them (aka another cc with them.)

      1. It all seemed legit she did asked for my email when I asked about the application which I would have thought she’d have right there as well but I gave it to her, again ill give her a call tomorrow and see what’s up a post a update.
