Back in February, I had downgraded my upgraded PLAT back to GOLD and AMEX clawed back the bonus points but let me keep the spend bonus. Well after keeping the card as GOLD for a month or two, I realized it was a useless card as GOLD and decided to upgrade it back to PLAT. I used this upgrade offer which would give me 25K after $2K spend as well as 5X at groc (up to $15K spend), so about 100K worth of MR if I charged all $15K at groceries.
Well I’m happy to report that I did receive the 25K as well as the 75K bonus on the spend.
There’s 2 more line items of 20K (remember that the original $5K charge is its own line item, so this bonus line item is the 4X “additional.”
So what’s the lesson learned here? Well I guess I could you could pulse the spend bonuses if you keep going up and down. I don’t plan on doing that, but it looks like it’s coded that way. Now I’m not sure if it let me because this ugprade offer was DIFFERENT than the one I did last Fall which gave 10X instead of 5X. Do with this info what you will.
