Back in summer 2019, SWAG golf covers were the rage. I think they’re still popular today, but it seems they’ve been cranking out so many covers that there’s just TOO MANY of them and it’s hard for collectors to collect them all. One thing that they do is they’ll randomly throw in a variant cover and those tend to go for 7-10X the cost.
Anyway, I had bought a Jack (like the playing card Jack) cover for like $111 back in 2019 and also a Pebble Beach Skull cover for $129. Fast forward 3 years later, that Jack cover goes for about $300 on Ebay and for some reason, the Pebble Beach cover goes for like $900. And these were the normal covers and not the variants. A guy in Oregon found my local listing and while he was up here for work, wanted to buy my last 2 Pebble Beach covers. I asked him if he was going to play with it or keep it sealed and he said sealed. I then asked him if he actually played golf, which he said he did. Anyhow, I don’t know how much more he thinks that cover will appreciate, but I’ll definitely have to ask him a few years down the road.
I had considered getting back into the golf covers, but like I said, there’s just too many out there and I’m not in tune with what’s popular anymore. Lesson learned – even niche things like golf covers can do well reselling.
