Safeway for U rewards change

It’s rare to see a rewards program change FOR THE BETTER in this day and age, but that’s what has happened with Safeway’s rewards program. You see in the past, you could only clip that $7 off meat coupon once a month and it’ll disapppear. That means there was a limit on how many rewards you wanted to earn in a month.

However, a reader pointed out that the program now lets you clip those rewards ONCE A WEEK. Notice how the meat coupon and the $5 off coupon display “Clip by 9/13/21” whereas the others say “Clip by 9/30/21.” That means if you clipped the meat coupon on say 9/13, then a new meat coupon pops up the following week. This now raises the limit on how many usable rewards you can clip in a month. Kudos to them.

  1. Looks like they put a stop to this positive development, or it was a glitch. Now all my coupons are waiting until end of month to expire.

  2. They also don’t take off the reward the second time. Happened to me and someone on reddit. Why can’t they make it easier to abuse them?

  3. But the new app is hot garbage. They removed functionality, the words in the offer get chopped off and you can’t read them even if you click through, the font size is tiny, no more filtering categories, no more sort by aisle, etc. Software engineers that made that crap are wayyyy overpaid.

    1. > no more filtering categories, no more sort by aisle, etc

At least on IOS, both of those filters are across the top.

They did add some quite useful functionality that had been only on the website — the ability to see which an offer applies to. Some of the broad category ones don’t – e.g. $1 on frozen food aisle, but to see exactly which 4 products qualify for the “99c flash sale 8.9-12.4 oz general mills cereal” (the 9 oz cheerios does, the 12oz cheeries does not — it’s the 12.4oz of of some other cereal)
