Xfinity is back with their free iPhone SE offer. This offer is good until 6/25. I tried to take advantage of this offer again, but I’m maxed out at 7 lines. I heard some people who only got 5 last time were able to get another 5 this time. Remember, since you’re paying for SHARED DATA, there is just a minimal incremental monthly fee (taxes) for each new line, so it behooves you to max out your account.
Let’s talk about what I’ve done with the 7 phones that I’ve gotten since December. I sent 1 in back in January or so for a Tmobile Costco trade-in offer and got $400 credit towards the new Samsung S21. I was planning on selling the Samsung, but prices tanked almost immediately (and it was hard for me to sell as new unlocked in box since I have to open the box to unlock.) I think my goal now is to wait for another Samsung Tmobile offer so I can trade it in for the new Note or S22 and then hope to flip that. I traded 2 SE’s into Tmobile last month and got another $400 credit towards the iPhone 12 mini. I opened one of them up to use, but I still have 1 more in box that I need to sell. The other 4 I’ve barely turned on, but I may create new Ticketmaster accounts with them shortly.
Anyhow, since I was maxed out at 7 lines, I asked the rep how I can get my wife an account. The rep said it’s 1 Mobile account per internet account, so I couldn’t just add her as an AU on my internet account. I then asked him what was the cheapest internet plan, and he said there was a promo going on now for $20/mo with 1 year contract. I asked him how I can do that since I thought it was 1 internet line per house; he said, “No, you can have more than 1 internet line at your address.” So we signed up my wife for it. He then tried to do the Mobile deal, but the system wouldn’t let him. He then called 2nd level and they said my wife would have to activate the modem at home first. I asked why can’t we activate it here in store? He said something about the node at my house or whatnot. Since I didn’t have a spare cable modem, I then rented one of theirs to activate when I got home. I then asked him if I could get a refund if I brought it back the next day and he told me it would be prorated ($15/month for a day should be about $.50.)
I took the cable modem home and found a spare jack in the house. Plugged it in and sure enough, it wouldn’t activate. Luckily the Xfinity app helped me text for customer support. I texted the rep my cable modem ID and a few minutes later, it was activated, so sure enough, I had 2 concurrent cable modems inside my house. Once things were working, I then tested to see if I could order MOBILE for my wife’s Comcast account and sure enough, it let me go further than before (before, it would give you an error about needing Comcast service.) I then took the cable modem back into the store and returned it. The rep then tried to sign me up for Mobile, but the computer woulnd’t let him. He called 2nd level and because my internet connection wasn’t active, it was blocking me from signing up for Mobile. They then told him to get me another modem and take it home to plug it in. I did that and drove back to the store and IT STILL WASN’T WORKING. Second level couldn’t figure out what was wrong either, so I went home. Probably wasted 2 hours driving back and forth and waiting in the store.
I then went home and was able to order the 5 phones just fine online. TCB was only giving back $10/line, so I’ll net $50 back from TCB versus the $100 gift card from the in store offer. Either way, I’m glad I was able to get the 5 phones with the new internet account.
Since I’m locked into Comcast internet for a year and mobile for 2 years, I can’t just cancel internet after 1 year. What I think I’ll do is port the 5 mobile lines over to T-Mobile and start a T-Mobile account (which then opens up more T-mobile promos), which would then close my Xfinity Mobile account. Then at month 13, I can close her internet account, else the $20/mo rate goes up to $50/mo or whatever it will be. Yeah lots of hoops to jump through but I think it’s worth doing.
In the terms it says that each line must be at least $15/month. How do you avoid this requirement?
I’ve never seen that requirment so they must not be enforcing or maybe it’s a newer thing
Got it, thanks. If you trade in or resell these before the end of the 24 month contract doesn’t Comcast charge you for the device?
Do you need to transfer numbers in or is it okay to get new numbers to get the promotion? On the website, it seems they require porting numbers. Just wondering, thanks.
So do you not need Comcast this time around to do this deal? The post doesn’t seem clear.
Did you not read the part where I had to sign up my wife for internet?
