Can’t have more than 99 AMEX AU’s, even after cancelling

Chalk this one up to one of those weird things that I ran into that you’ll most likely won’t. Anyhow, a few years ago, I had added 99 AU’s to an AMEX Biz Plat card. I then stupidly decided to close them all just because I wasn’t using them. Now, when I try to add more AU’s, the first line rep will say it’s okay, but then I got a call the next day saying I can’t add anymore AU’s since I already had 99 in the past and the system can’t “free” up those numbers. The rep wasn’t sure when those numbers would be freed up, but I know it’s been at least 2 years. Regardless, the rep suggested I open up a new primary card and then add 99 AU’s that way.

Lesson learned – don’t close any AMEX AU’s if you don’t have to.
