Selling locally on Facebook? It could cost your entire FB account

There are A LOT of haters out there who hate resellers. Most of them you can ignore and block, but you can’t block them all and it eventually catches up to you. Let’s talk about the levels of Facebook Marketplace bans.

Level 1 – The listing deletion

If enough of the haters report your Facebook Marketplace listing, the listing usually gets taken down. You can then request an appeal, which sometimes you win and sometimes you never hear back. I remember back when I was selling the rafting tubes. I’d be going good for 2-3 days and all of a sudden, my listing has been disabled. I had the option to appeal or delete. I tried appeal and it would take too long. The easiest thing to do was just to DELETE the listing and then re-post a new one. The same thing is happening with the PS5’s now. This time though, I appealed and within 12 hours my listing started to show up again.

Level 2 – Blocked from Marketplace

This happened to me TWICE in the last 2 weeks. I think it was due to all the PS5 hate. You’ll get a message when you go into the Marketplace app saying ‘You can’t use this anymore because you violated community standards. Click here to appeal a review.’ Then if you push that button, after 1-2 days, if things go well, you’ll be back in business. Then a week after that, I got blocked a 2ND TIME and got a 2nd review. I thought this can’t be good with all these strikes against me. Luckily, I passed the 2nd review too.

Level 3 – Facebook site wide ban

This is the 3rd and most vicious ban (see screenshot below.) I think this has happened to a couple of people in my Slack. I think this was because their FB accounts were newer or set up primarily to buy/sell. Either way, it’s something you should keep in mind if you do a lot of local FB selling.

  1. i sold stuff on market place and bought stuff i was trying to sell a horse trailer i bought on marketplace and next thing i got a meassage i cant buy or sell i was able to hit a appeal says i have to wait 24 hours .i am very hurt by this i done nothing wrong i cant even look to buy just is not right .that people can report you maybe because you wouldnt go down on the price or send more pictures .they should at least tell you the reason they lock you out of the market place !!

  2. Ugh I just got the ban from marketplace. I did the appeal but I’m not very hopeful. Fingers crossed they unblock me. I still have a few PS5 to unload.

  3. Interesting but is this more of a hate thing or poor listing practices? Just wondering. I can’t speak for FB but what many people hate is folks that keyword spam stuff or don’t list the price correctly. Like selling a 2005 Chevy 1500 and keyword spamming at the bottom ford dodge nissan f150 (etc.) or selling a $500 item but the listing shows $1 in the headline.

  4. Can say from my experience that you get three strikes on the marketplace ban. Once I got hit with the third, I got a message that said “You Can’t Buy or Sell on Facebook This is because you didn’t follow our Community Standards. This has been the third review of your account, and this decision is final.”
