I follow Slickdeals on Twitter and there was a wifi router deal that popped up after I wrote my last WIFI article. It led me down a rabbit hole and I would up buying the 2 router mesh kit of the ASUS RT-AX92U. I think I found an Amazon warehouse deal for around $300. Let’s get to the point – it was a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over my older Asus setup. I no longer have issues upstairs on the opposite side of the house.
The only issue that has popped up lately is that the router will lose the WAN connection (it’s happened 2 times in last 2 weeks and today even.) I then have to reboot the router and it’s fixed. This only recently started happening and I’m hoping a firmware update will fix it, but before that issue, I was very happy with the coverage and speed of the routers. I’d recommend the set.
I got Google Wifi mesh setup back in June.. I love it.. truly plug and play! No issues whatsoever over my ~3k sq ft house single story. I even back access in my backyard
I just went through Asus router roulette also. Started with the AX86, and had the same drop issues. Ordered a AX11000 and in the interim tried the Zen mini. Ended up keeping the “future proof” AX11000. This thing rocks. Blankets my 3.5k sf house. About to return a Walmart scam of 2 6100’s for $249. Surprise! Only one.
So the million dollar question
Why this setup vs the Google Wifi setup with 3 access points for less than $300 ??
tbh, i was familiar with Asus already and it was the ‘deal’ that i found. i had tried the Orbi mesh a while back and that sucked so i irrationally figured the Google one would be just as bad.
