I needed to rent a car for 3 days in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. I pulled up Autoslash and let them find me quotes. I think Economy was the cheapest at something like $40 all in, but I read some reviews about insurance issues, so I passed on them. Fox Rent a Car, which I had used in HNL once before so I was a bit familiar, came back with an INTERMEDIATE card for $69. The cheapest rate from the big boys were at least double the Fox rate at around $150 (even using codes.) So I decided to go with Fox.
One of the concerns about these 2nd rate car companies is the long lines on pickup. When we landed in LAX, we were lucky to catch a shuttle immediately. Then when we got to the rental agency, there was about 5-6 parties in front of us with 3 people working. I don’t know why it takes people so long, but it took us about 10-15 min before we got a rep. The pickup was pretty straight forward; he asked if I wanted insurance. I told him NO that I’d use my own. He asked me with whom and I told him verbally. I didn’t have to show any kind of proof. After signing on the digipad a few times and declining the fuel option, we got handed the keys and were on our way.
We wound up with a Toyota Corolla. It had some minor rim scrapes and there was a light scratch on the side bumper. I saw it, but didn’t notate it on the sheet when exiting the location.
We returned the car a few days later. Very quick and painless. They then emailed me my receipt, which matched the original quote. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again in the future. They seem to be the budget car rental that’s trying to be like the big boys.
I have not read your post yet. But given my experience with Fox. I’m betting you paid more then that amount you showed.
Fox rental cars the cheapest in America but to save couple dollar you will suffer a lot in this company there’s San Francisco location it is out of the airport facility takes you one hour to reach you going to take a train the train will take you to the last stop after that you going to wait for a shuttle bus the shuttle bus will take you 20 minutes right total time you going to spend this 1 hour to 1 hour and a half so why you spend all this time after you came from wrong trip just to say 5 and $10 also if you carry a luggage that’s another problem if you have a family with you your kids they going to hurt you they going to cry the whole day so I kindly advise don’t take this Fox rental company in San Francisco airport they are not inside the airport anyway they are cheap and they have the worst customer service full of and professional people
We used to live in Denver close to the airport. Every time my wife’s 250k mile car broke down I’d order parts and rent her a car from Fox while we waited. They always gave us an upgrade and were super cool. Insurance via CC and no pressure on the upsell. I’d definitely use them again if the price was right.
Taxes and fees >than rental. Lol.
Have rented from Fox a time or two and, other than a longer wait at the pickup counter, thought it a positive experience.
I’ve rented from them 3 or 4 times and never had a negative experience.
Was waiting for something along the lines of how they screwed you and why you wouldn’t recommend them at the end…
