How I did on those Jack White tickets

Introduction

Who is Jack White you ask?  I really don’t know either.  I just remember he was pseudo-popular maybe a decade ago (oh man, please don’t flame me you Jack White fans.)  I figure, “Oh maybe he still has a cult following, especially playing at the small-ish venue WAMU theater in Seattle.”  All the tickets were General Admission and you know my Viet gambling blood couldn’t stop me.  Like a dummy who goes all-in on AJ, I went ahead and bought 4 tickets for an all-in cost of $343 (~$86 a ticket.)  This was back in January by the way.

Selling them

I immediately listed them and that’s where they sat..and sat…and sat… for over 2 months.  Prices were dropping on Stubhub and so I cut the price as well.  Eventually all 4 sold a few days ago for $237 take-home, a total loss of $105 and an ROI of -30%.

Lessons Learned

Eh, stay away from Jack White?  I think the key lesson really is – when you are unsure, maybe try only buying 2 tickets and not going for 4 or more.

  1. The White Stripes! Hasn’t been as big since then though and would have been better to buy tickets in Detroit most likely. He does have a very cool record store downtown if you ever visit 🙂

A band worth trying to get tickets for, especially for Michigan shows (if you can get them) is Gretta Van Fleet – they are very close to blowing up.
