In my attempt to get enough points to score 2 flights to Hawaii this weekend, I had to use the Virgin America portal who was offering 2X points on AMEX gift cards. I originally had stopped at $20K of gift cards to get the 40K points needed, but I was worried by the time the points post next month, the coach seats would be gone. Therefore, I cranked it up and decided to order another $30K of AMEX business gift cards. So now I have to figure out how to convert these things to CASH and FAST. It’s a good thing I used my AMEX biz gold card, which won’t report my balance. I usually pay off my personal cards before the statement closes [to improve my credit score], but I won’t need to for the AMEX biz gold. I was concerned of an AMEX financial review too since a coworker got hit with one when he bought too many GCs too soon when he got his biz SPG card a year ago. Not to mention I’m trying to max out my WF 5X card, which I can MS about 20K a week. And my local Krogers affiliate stopped taking gift cards too. Now I have to get creative and what I mean by creative is driving to lots of Walmarts. Ugh.
