So you got a Harry Potter code – now what?

Introduction

Around Monday afternoon, if you registered to be a Harry Potter fan, then you should have gotten an email saying you either were randomly selected to get a code or whether you are put on standby.  So here’s what you need to do next:

  • Don’t sell the codes on Ebay (apparently the Ed Sheeran codes were tied to your account, so you’d have to give them info to your account too.) I’m not sure if HP will be the same, but you have to assume it will be.
  • Also, don’t give up hope just because you were on standby.  One person I know got access 30 minutes after being on standby for Bruce.
  • I was going to write out my tips, but Stubhub themselves sent out a letter on how to play this thing.  You can read below.
  • Me personally, I think the sooner the better.  So pick first preview or spring break dates.  As for seats, the best you can get (so buy those premiums.)  It also seems you have to buy part 1 and 2 separately as well as list them separately.  Shouldn’t be an issue; just sucks on the buying side to have to click through so many times.
  • I would be amiss to not link you to this article I’m not sure what SH would do in this case since they are actively promoting reselling the show.

Good luck!

How did selling go for you

  • Karen Carter

Once I receive my access code tomorrow (2/7/18) what is the best strategy for the ticket search? Do I search for 2 tkts, add to cart, go back and search for 2 more or do I complete purchase of 1st 2 tickets and then log back in and purchase 2 more? If I just want to get 2 orchestra tkts and am not concerned about date, what’s the best way to search? I am concerned about multiple searches wasting time and ending up with nothing. I just want to get something in the orchestra. Thanks for any help.

    • Miles per Day

Everyone’s strategy is different. If you try for 4 in one go, then you may not get the best seats. If you do 2 orders of 2, then the 2nd pair may be sold out or way in the back. It’s up to you.

So I got consecutive days combo tickets Thu/Fri parts 1&2 for July, but Stubhub has page listings only for Thu and Fri separately. The combo tickets will have the same QR code for both days. How am I supposed to sell them separately? Then, there are Thu/Fri combo listings during the previews up until Apr 19th, but they become separate after the regular performances start. WTF?

Just a Data Point – got the Stand by email from Ticketbastard yesterday, at 1.30pm I got a text with an access code. Got 4 tickets in Balcony section in April

  • Tania Pereyra

    Hi Vihn,
I got an access code but I am not going to purchase tickets. Not a lot cash flow so I rather not to gamble. If you want the code to share with one of your readers let me know.
    Tania

    • Miles per Day

I believe code is tied to the account Tania but thanks for asking. I mean, you can email it to me and I can test it out, but I’m sure on checkout, it’ll want the same account.

  • Marc

I was able to get 4 orchestra tickets for November 15-16, but the only delivery options I was given were by mobile or by will call, so I chose by mobile. Did other people get the option for email/pdf? Did I do something wrong, as I wasn’t given that choice. I saw the new post on how to sell mobile through Stubhub, but I am not sure I would qualify since I have only sold a couple of times there, and not very recently at all.

Even if approved by Stubhub, how would I transfer the tickets to the buyer? The order confirmation email specifies the exact row and seats, but in my Ticketmaster account, I get this message on:

“When you can get your tickets?
Your tickets will be ready prior to event – anytime after 7:30pm on Mon, Nov 12, 2018 (we’ll email you a reminder when they’re ready).”

I am not sure what to do now.

    • Joe

      all the same.

    • Kumar

I guess all got only those 2 options. Cant we sell on TM too??

  • Joe

    2 quick questions:

in the email confirmation it says that the tickets are refundable up to 14 days before the show… is that right?

Also it gives you the option of will call pick up or mobile ticket… how do you sell the mobile ticket on stubhub? (after you are approved?)

  • Kumar

Got 2 tickets for the dressr section row B for june 16, both parts. 851 all in , 199 per ticket but according to the map above dressr section is at 130 per. Confused.

    • Joe

all the tickets are more than what’s shown in the map above.

  • Joe

Did you mean get the best premium $249 tickets?

    • Joe

i’m guessing vinh meant the premium $249 tickets rather than the $199 tickets. OOPS!

  • Joe

I think i got the worst $199 tickets bummer lol…. i just bought it … yikes..

    last row center dress circle!

    • Cameron Newland

Yeah, same. Row H in DRESSC. Mine were for April 25th, though, so I’m hoping I get a good price for them considering they’re just a few days after opening night.

      • Joe

i’m hoping that being in the summer time… maybe people who are vacationing or whatever, I guess I should’ve picked faster… or something…

        • Joe

crap my tickets sold, must have priced them too low!

          • Miles per Day

            what’d you price at?

          • Joe

            $1K per pair.

          • Miles per Day

So you sold 6 tickets at $1.1K each for $6K gross?

But you’re saying 1K per pair – do you mean a pair of tickets or a pair of shows (part 1 & 2)?

          • Joe

yes. paid ~$2500 got ~$6600 gross minus fees.

          • Miles per Day

Let us know how the transfer process goes when it’s time.

          • Joe

curious can you email me what price you’re pricing yours? my tickets will be transferred way after everyone else’s it’s in August!

          • Joe

what are you pricing yours at?

the buyer paid $6600 or so gross.

          • Kumar

How did you list them?? I do not see an option to list.

  • Tranceratops

Cannot get 2 prem tickets for a sat show into November 2018……

    • Miles per Day

yeah 11am cleaned up through July for Saturdays

      • Tranceratops

i finally got 2 orchestra seats for Sunday October 28th in my cart: $1,050 after fees. I can flip 1K into 5K by the end of the year so this is not worth the time investment for me. Good luck though!

        • Miles per Day

man, let me give you 100K so you can flip it into 500K in a year then.

  • Kijo

Nothing here. I only registered two accounts. Fingers crossed on the standby.

  • Chris

Thanks for the data point on Ed Sheeran code being tied to Ticketmaster account. That hasn’t been the case up until now as far I know.

    • Miles per Day

Yeah that’s when I first noticed too. Not sure if ALL codes will be like that in future or artist’s choice, but it’ll probably be tied to block sales of codes.

  • Pat L

What are your plans if they instate that policy on order confirmation?

    • Miles per Day

I don’t know. At that point, I don’t think there is a plan B. Just gotta sit it out.

    • Chris

My guess would be StubHub would come up with a way for the seller to forward the confirmation to the buyer. What is crazy about this order confirmation requirement IMO is it’s not really penalizing the scalpers but the buyer. The buyer (or fan in most cases) is the one getting turned away at the door and only refunded face when they likely overpaid. Yes these sad stories of fans getting turned away will get out and people will be less likely to purchase from scalpers but why not to target the scalper directly. This is coming from a scalper too 😉

  • Kyle Baxter

Does it make any sense that I didn’t receive any emails. Nothing stating standby or a code.

    • Miles per Day

No that’s odd. You should have gotten an email either way.

  • Ken

Nothing for us, but I only registered 2 accounts.

  • borscht

I assume you are going to max out at the 6 tix, are you going to target orchestra center premium or remaining, and for reference do you know by any chance what ROI was for early Hamilton tixs?

    • Miles per Day

the best $199 tickets. check my site for early hamilton results.
