CNB shuts down my account

I may be one of the few people who still have their CNB Crystal Visa Infinite card. I was mainly keeping it around for the free Priority Pass restaurants; I think the AF was about $150 net each year after faking travel purchases. Even then, the card was mostly sock drawered since its bonus categories suck. However, I started to use the card more over the last year. They were fine with my cycling my $20K until one day I asked about increasing my CL, which then made a banker call me to tell me I needed to get a higher CL since I was cycling. I never did the request for a higher CL since it was so convoluted, meaning they mailed me what looked like a credit application and that I had to mail back in. I told her I’d keep my spend to 1X CL, which I did for a few months.

Then an unforeseen situation happened whereby I had charged $60K on the $20K CL. Technically it’s not possible to go over your CL, but in this situation, it happened. My February statement closed with like a $17K balance out of $20K CL. Then within a week, the balance went up to $60K. A week later, a CNB banker calls me (I think the branch manager actually) inquiring about my charges and when I’d be able to pay it down. I told him a) what the big deal was since my statement hadn’t been cut yet AND b) I’m not delinquent. He gave the excuse of blah blah back office is worried (I’m sure bust out risk.) I told him I’d pay the card on Wednesday (the call was on a Thursday afternoon,) but since it takes a day to post, then it should post by Thursday. He was okay with that.

Tuesday rolls around and he calls me again, “ehhh Vinh is there any way for you to make a payment TODAY and have it post by tomorrow?” I got irate with him telling him to get off my ass since I wasn’t delinquent and my statement hadn’t even been cut yet (still a week or so out.) I chewed him out and he took it but basically kept saying he was just relaying what the back office/executives asked. So I made the payment for $60K and thought it was done.

A week later, I get a letter dated THE DAY BEFORE HE MADE THE 2ND CALL saying I had been axed. I was PISSED. Look, I knew the axe was coming so I wasn’t mad about the axe. I was mad that on the 2nd call, he was trying to rush me to make the payment earlier than what we agreed on (and way before my statement was even cut.) If I knew he had already axed me on the 2nd call, I woulda said f* if and let the statement close and wait until the last day to make the payment. Of course he knew that if I had known I was already axed, I wouldn’t pay up early either. These are games you play with other people; I didn’t think an actual bank would play the game against me.

Also, they got P2’s card as well and she only had like a $17K balance on a $10K CL, so I’m sure it was a household axe. Regardless, the card was gonna be sock drawered anyway after that month; the $150 wasn’t worth it for the PP food.
