The MINT drops the limit from 3 coins to 1 coin for Friday

Lol, did I just kill the deal? There’s no way my small little blog somehow got the MINT’s attention and they decided to drop the limit from 3 coins per order to 1 right? That’d be some wild shit. Hey MINT, if you actually are reading my blog, can you go back to doing lottery style variants? It’s all the rage these days (see Pokemon cards.)

Anyway, I think this will make things a lot easier for everyone to order. I don’t think this will sell out in the first hour anymore. If you assume the Flowing Hair’s 50K mintage was actually say 35K publicly available (the MINT backdoors a % of coins to dealers,) that didn’t even sell out in the first 24 hours. Now let’s say at best, there are 70K of these army privys publicly accessible, I just don’t see this coin moving to 70K unique people in 24 hours. I THINK you’ll have at least 4 hours to buy this thing; of course if you CAN buy it close to drop time, do that. But if you were busy at drop time, I think you’ll still have a chance at it later on in the day. If I was a betting man and Vegas was doing over/under on if this sells out in 24 hours, I’d bet the NO SELLOUT.

If it doesn’t sell out in 24 hours, meaning more collectors have a shot to buy the coin, then theoretically this dampens Ebay prices since there is no need for a collector to pay resell prices. HOWEVER, this also means fewer coins out there for a dealer to buy and grade, so that force should push prices up. I don’t know which force is stronger to be honest; my gut says prices drop due to lack of buyers. At the very least, graded coin prices should command a larger premium than normal since there will be fewer of these graded (I’m assuming most grandmas don’t grade the coins.)

If this coin does sell out in 24 hours, then I think prices will rise since now dealers will definitely be scrambling to get their hands on coins to grade (and once again, graded coins spread will be higher than normal.) FYI, silver hair raw is about $260 now. Silver hair graded at 69 is essentially the same price as raw, so $260. Graded a 70, it’s around $400 and from what I heard, about 70% were graded 70’s, so about a $140 difference. Currently, the raw army privys are around $205 while graded 70’s are currently $380-$440, so let’s say a $200 difference. I think over time, this spread will fall back to the flowing hair spread of ~$150.

Regardless, I think everyone has a good shot at buying a coin on Friday. No changes by my buyer due to the limit change. If you also want to lock in for $175/coin, use this form > https://forms.gle/qy1yi3dGdXsxiPET8 If the form is closed, that means my buyer is no longer taking orders.

  1. Hi, I just filled out the Google form. The email I received does not have instructions or address labels. Where should I send the coin to once received? And where do I enter payment info to receive the $175? Is there a FAQ page or should I expect another email with more instructions? Thanks

  2. Do we need to submit the form again now that the limit has changed? I submitted the form yesterday saying I was going to buy two sets of 3 coins. But now I will only be able to buy two coins.

    1. No cuz the form was always ‘how many ORDERS’ and not ‘COINS’ so now I dont multiply by 3 to get a count of coins.

  3. Speaking of grading, do you ever get yours graded? Curious if it’s worth doing for resell (eBay, etc). My best flip ever was on the 2023 Morgan Dollars. 4-6k profit a set, I think, but no grading. Wonder if there’s a lot of money left on the table.
