This is for people who buy up to 99 coins in a MINT order. If you buy 1-2, I think you’ll be fine. Anyway, I know a handful of people personally (myself too) who have been shortchanged by the USMINT. For instance, on the Flowing Hair silver coins, I had ordered 99 of the coins. I believe I was short 1 coin. There was an earlier coin that my wife’s order was short 2 coins out of 99. It’s just ridiculous. Both orders, I filed a certificate of non receipt and was refunded the missing coins pretty quickly.
However, someone else recently ordered 99 coins and he was short 16 coins or so. It was clear because when you order 99 coins, they usually break it out into 3 shipments of 44, 44, and 11. And they will send out an email with the tracking number and the number of coins in the shipment. As you can see from the picture below, one of the 44 coin packages was off by 1.6 pounds compared to the other 44 coin package. The buyer sent in the certificate of non delivery and got rejected. He escalated a few times and got rejected again. Eventually he filed a chargeback and that was initially denied. He then escalated with AMEX and finally won the chargeback. It was RIDICULOUS he had to go to his card when it’s clear that the shipment was short just by the weight of the package.
What’s the lesson learned here? If you’re ordering 99 USMINT coins, fully expect to be short some coins and hope they make you whole w/o you having to escalate to your credit card.
