Well it seems Costco has moved to Fedex for some shipments

Last week I wrote about how Costco was trying to figure out how to stop the UPS scam from happening. Well it seems their way of solving this was to move away from UPS and go with Fedex. Interestingly enough, when I got a delivery yesterday, the driver asked for my DL and they scanned it into the handheld. Not sure what would happen if a) I didn’t have a DL, b) it was someone other than me, or c) I’ll have to do this EVERY TIME I’ll get a shipment.

Good for Costco for acting so quickly. Usually to make a change like this in other companies would require A LOT OF TIME and negotiations (or maybe this has been in the works for months already.) Clearly they think the leak is coming from UPS or maybe they like that Fedex forces an ID scan whereas UPS is just a headnod.

A couple of updates on this. So far, this transition hasn’t been smooth.

  1. I had a package that was supposed to be delivered one day. Tracking shows it’s gonna be returned to sender even though there wasn’t even an attempt to deliver.
  2. Someone else reported the same thing
  3. A couple of people have reported Fedex just leaving the packages at the front door, with no signature obtained.

Oh boy this is gonna get interesting…

  1. AFAIK the fedex scanning thing only checks the date of birth to ensure you’re an adult. Unsure if anything is stored in the FedEx system or if this would prevent somebody from presenting a fake ID. Fake IDs work at bars when they scan the barcode, or at least I’ve heard…

I didn’t have my ID upon delivery yesterday for my Costco shipment, and the driver just asked me my DOB, and he put it in manually.

    1. Ah it’s like alcohol shipments then; just needing to be over 21. I’m not sure if this will fix the issue unless the leak was truly coming from UPS.
