I had applied for the Synchrony Virgin Red card last month and got a letter in the mail saying it was rejected due to ‘high risk application source.’ I read on Reddit that this is basically IT rejecting the application and that there was no pull done on my credit report. I had applied for the card on my home PC on my Xfinity cable modem after Googling the application link.
Yesterday, something weird happened when I tried to log into my Bank of America account. I got an immediate email and a text saying that my login was disabled and that I had to call in. The lady on the phone said that my computer set off some sort of malware trigger on their servers (maybe someone was keylogging my PC) and thus they blocked the login. Now mind you I had logged into the account on the same PC/IP 3-4 times earlier that day and I didn’t browse to any suspicious sites from that point on. She then had me run Windows Defender to scan my PC. That’s when I noticed that my Win11 Device Security had an exclamation mark and that one of the 4 options weren’t all checked, so I checked it, rebooted and ran a full scam (which eventually found nothing.)
Anyway, this then led me to believe something with my PC/IP could have made Synchrony not like the application. So I went on my phone 5G and applied for the card. After I submitted the app, it sent me a link to do a face scan and then to scan in my ID, which I don’t recall the PC app making me do. Anyway, after I did that, I immediately got approved for an $8.5K CL. Not awesome but at least it was finally approved. So if you get rejected by Synchrony due to ‘high risk applicaiton source,’ try to apply on your phone’s 5G.
