This was a bit unexpected. I have been carrying their 2% card with a $30K CL for years now. It was mostly a sock drawer card until I started to use them for Costco. Back in the unlimited 5% cashback grocery days, they were okay with cycling and so I cycled my 2% card pretty heavily. Let’s go back to this year:
- January $38K
- March $21K
- April $69K
- May $70K
- June $0
- August $88K
- Sept $155K
- October $168K
- November $103K
Talking to some other folks, the cycling wasn’t the culprit. It was because you could pay WF with a debit card. Yes, I publicized that because if you want to maintain your account, you SHOULDN’T be doing that. I don’t know why they are mad by people doing this. If they didn’t like it, just STOP TAKING PAYMENTS like your competitor just did.
Anyway, I felt no hurt over this. Well, I am a bit sad because they’ll eventually close my checking account and that’s where I’ve been feeding my money orders. It’s great because the ATM takes like 30 at a time whereas my local CU only takes 10 at a time, so it’s just more time spent at the ATM now. I mean, there was no other purpose for their 2% cashback card, so good riddance. This is the 2nd casualty due to “my precious…” (my wife’s BOA ban being the first.)
