I’ve had the NFCU AMEX card for years now for the 3% grocery. However, there’s a better card for groceries these days so I stopped using it. I’ve tried applying for their Flagship Visa a few times now and I keep getting denied. I think my CL with the AMEX was $22K so maybe I’ve hit their member CL cap. I don’t know. Last week I called to see if I could convert it to the Visa and they said it would be possible. However, my rewards would be forfeited and I had $40 stranded there. You need a $50 minimum to cash out, so I went and charged $333 at a grocery store. A few days later, I cashed out the $50 of rewards and called them up to make the product change. They said I’d get the Visa in 5 days.
The reason I wanted the Visa was the 2X everywhere on the card. This way I could make use of the card vs it being sockdrawered as the AMEX. Plus I have a feeling I can easily convert back later. Not sure if I get the free year of Prime with this product change. I’ll have to call and ask once the card comes in and I’ll update the post then.
$49 AF for a 2x card…?
Vihn, what’s the “better card for groceries these days”?
