I’ve had a Withings smart body scale now for almost 10 years. I can go back in time and see my weight increasing just like the S&P500. When I found out that Withings came out with a new Body Scan scale that can track WHERE your muscle composition was, I thought cool. I don’t know how accurate it is; I mean things are all relative. I’m not going to go around and quote my body fat based on what the scale tells me. However, if my body fast has gone up 5% over the past year, then I can trust that number.
I think the web site does a good job of the capabilities of the scale. It does take almost a minute every day if you want to do the full assessment (including the 30 second electrocardiogram.) I use the scale 2 times a week on Tuesday and Friday mornings. On Tuesdays, I don’t do the full assessment and stop after it measures my weight. I also don’t pay for the monthly Withings subscription. I think it was cool the first time you saw your arms muscle % vs torso and legs. However, because it doesn’t change often, it’s not something I look at weekly or even monthly. Maybe once a quarter I’ll open the app and look at the progress over time. Is it worth $400? No not really, but if you’re a gadgets person who is also into fitness and body composition, then this may be up your alley.
