I was on the Apple Watch 5 for the longest time up until the Ultra 2 came out. I just felt there was no need to upgrade the Apple Watch every year or two. I think every 3rd year seemed right. Anyway the main reason why I got the Ultra 2 instead of the 8 (or is it 9) is because I just wanted a bigger screen. I didn’t care about the ruggedness although that’s nice or the diving or hiking aspects of the watch.
When I first installed the watch I noticed that you now get 6 shortcuts on the modular screen instead of 4. And yes the font size and things are bigger. You get to see more of texts and emails but it’s dependent on whether the app developer enabled more screen space or not.
The Velcro band took a while to get used to but now I do like it better than the silicon bands.
Saying “Siri” actually works 90% of the time. The 5 would only acknowledge me saying “Hey Siri” like 25% of the time. The speech to text is also better now.
I’ve gotten used to the bigger physical format and don’t think it looks gawdy on my wrist.
Do I recommend it? I don’t think 95% of people need it. I just wish Apple would make a bigger screen that isn’t an Ultra.
