TL;DR – Staples.com went from a $2K VGC per order limit to now a 5 card limit. Also the daily max went from $10K to $5K. Lastly, the $200 cards are no longer online.
Back in 2022 or even earlier this year, although Staples.com has a published $2K limit, the web site would let you order 6 of the $300 VGC to make it $1800 and change. Now it seems they’ve set the limit to 5.
This means you can only order $15xx per order. Now once again, in the past, you could do 5 orders of $1800 to put you close to the $10K daily limit. Well now it seems you can only do 3 orders of $1500. I tried to do 6 orders getting me to $9000, but the last 3 orders got this error msg:
“We would like to inform you that your order xxxxxx will not be processed and has been cancelled. Your order has exceeded the allowable limit set for Gift Card purchases by Staples. Please refer to our Product and Services Terms and Conditions posted on Staples.com.”
Also, I had made those purchases at 8:00PM PST. I then tried a new batch of 3 orders the next day at 6:00PM PST and those were cancelled too. So it seems Staples doesn’t reset based on calendar; it might be 24 hours or longer. I’ll update when I figure out when the limit resets.
Oh and it also seems they pulled the $200 VGCs too (those made no sense anyway since the fees were the same as the $300s I believe.
Are you going through a cash back or miles site for Staples
Create another Staples account
You know what? Not sure why I didn’t think of that, but I guess that’s what I’ll do next.
The question is what is the incentive to buy it from online , when there is a frequent fee free promotions in store ?
Is there hidden cashback/points store that gives points for these purchases? I may not get the answer here , but food for thought
Many times the $300 & $200 value GC’s are not physically in stock at someone’s closest (or five +) store. Hence, the decision to switch to online…
Same thought here. How do you liquidate them other than organic spend
too bad i dont know how to liquidate such amounts without paying 2% extra in fees like those using it for their taxes.
i cant even convert these types of visa/mastercard gc into money orders any more at my local grocery chains.
