Textnow $1 sim for free texts and calls

Textnow seems to have a $1 sim card for free texting and calling here – https://www.textnow.com/wireless/phones/63/sim-card

I did this deal a week ago and got the sim card in the mail yesterday. I popped the sim card in, activated it, and texted myself just fine. I think the catch is they play ads when you make calls and will prob spam text me, but I’m good with that. Seems it’s a $1 one-time fee too, so no monthly charges. I don’t need data so this is great for a 2nd phone number on my main line.

What can I use it for? New Ticketmaster account. New Uber Eats/Doordash/Grubhub account. Etc. For $1, you can’t go wrong.

  1. The Specifics:

We recommend you use your TextNow number for an outgoing call or text at least once every 2 days. While your number won’t necessarily expire after two days, every account and area code is different. So if you are adamant about keeping that number, make sure to stay active and don’t let your account become dormant.

Also be aware that incoming calls and texts do not count towards keeping your TextNow number active. There must be an indication that the account is in use, so an outgoing call or text is required.

But what do you expect for free?
I use mine on an old phone for backup and maybe for multiple subscriptions/offers limited to one per number (but not limited to one per person).

I will lose my number on average every 2 weeks to 30 days if not used. Oh well. I don’t give it out anyway. I just get a new number when needed. Some numbers get tons of missed calls. Those I will let expire as soon as possible. Don’t need calls/texts/VM from randos all day. The good thing is normally you will be advised before they take your number away via texts and sometimes emails. For me having this service is great but it also can become a chore.

    1. Chris – Is that with the app version or SIM card? I knew about those app limitations; not sure if the SIM card is same or not.

      1. I lost my number after 8 days of non-use. Also, I find it annoying that I can only use its app, but not the phone dialer, to make calls, am I doing anything wrong?

        1. The sim must be different than the app. I sent a text on June 16th for this post. Phone has been off the whole time. Just turned it back on 7/5 and sent myself a text just fine.

          1. Can you use the phone dialer to make calls? Or, do you have to use Textnow App?
