FIA sent out a promo at the beginning of June to earn an extra 50% points on spend (so 3% total.) I didn’t even go crazy on it because of all the fraud blocks on the card. Eventually I think they had had enough of me. I called in last week to clear the fraud block and was told the card had been closed. I didn’t make any mid month payments on the card. I just spent about $10K in a span of a week and boom! Got the axe.
At first I thought they closed my account due to the ramp in spend on a card that was sock drawered, but they eventually mailed me the reason why and it’s ridiculous. It was because I didn’t clear their fraud alerts in time. Let me just say they did NOT make ‘several attempts.’ They made that one phone call after the initial FA and never tried to contact me again. I figured I’d wait to call them back later but never got around to it. I remember making a small charge a few days later, so I thought I was good to go (and that maybe they were oddly blocking large transactions.) It was probably 2-3 weeks after the last FA before they decided to close my account.
Either way, I’m not crying about this since I hardly ever used the card anyway due to the nonstop FA’s. Lesson learned though – always try to clear those FA’s in a timely fashion. You’d think they would have sent me a new card instead of just axing the whole account.
They cancelled me for too many “business” transactions related to reselling. The KYC Nazi apparently thought I must be a tax evader/money launderer.
