What to do with those Xfinity Iphone SE’s

A month ago, I wrote about an Xfinity Mobile deal for some free iPhone SE’s. For the most part, it’s worked out as planned. I wound up getting 7 phones/lines and this is my monthly payment:

The question now is – what am I going to do with the 7 iphone SE’s. Well, I do plan on using one of them. Unfortunately, Xfinity won’t unlock them until you’ve paid them all off in 2 years, so you won’t be able to unlock them officially. Quick aside – it seems VOIP.ms will charge $25 to port out, so if I were you, just get another Google Voice phone number and pay $3 to port out.

Option 1 – trade them into Apple and get $180. This is probably the easiest option if you want to cash out ASAP.

Option 2 – sell them as Xfinity locked on either Ebay, Mercari, Swappa, etc. You might get $300-$350 but your potential customer base is small since who the hell uses Xfinity service.

Option 3 – use the device and wait for a trade-in offer by a major carrier.

Option 4 – you can try to unlock it and then sell it as unlocked (highest value but this isn’t for the feint of heart.)

As for me, I’m in option 3; maybe I’ll do a few option 1’s. I mean, $200 * 7 = $1400 is a nice payday too.

  1. Carrier locked phones are always accepted for trade ins. I specifically go buy those phones (once purchased an iPhone locked to a Japanese carrier on Swappa to help the seller).

  2. I wasn’t aware that Apple trade-in would take locked phones, but I could be out dated. I got just one of these and use it as my backup phone.
